Frequently Asked Questions

As of Fall 2021 we have implemented a new sign up system through GotSport and we appreciate your patience!

What is the difference between Select and Rec Travel?

-Select is a higher level of competition where players are required to try out.  The top players are chosen by a group of coaches.  Competition is made up of quality teams from Cadillac, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids and Muskegon. Cost is also higher due to higher league fees.

Rec Travel is a place for players who love to play soccer with their friends, have fun, but still learn. (No tryouts.)  In rare cases these teams may be coed.  Their competition is made up of teams from Manistee, Hart, Shelby, Muskegon area and Coopersville.

What does my child need to play soccer?

-Every player must wear a uniform, soccer cleats, shin guards, socks to cover the shin guards and have a soccer ball.  Uniforms are ordered during registration.  Players should always bring a ball and water to every practice.

U5-U8 have a reversible black/white jersey and can wear any color shorts and socks.  Sweatshirts or sweats can be worn but jersey must be visible.

U9-U19 must wear the LSC Uniform.  Cold weather gear can be worn underneath but must be the same color as uniform or black.

Do I need to order a new uniform each season?

-No.  Only order a new Jersey if your child has worn theirs out or if they have out grown it. PLEASE NOTE: The club will be switching to new uniforms for Fall 2022, so do NOT order a new jersey unless absolutely necessary!

When is registration and how do I sign up my child?

-For registration dates check out our timeline/calendar.  Sign up is done 100% online at  We accept credit cards (Mastercard or Visa) or you can mail a check to PO Box 455 Ludington, MI 49431.

I missed registration.  Can my child still play?

-If there is still room on a team and rosters have not been finalized, we may be able to accommodate your child.  A $25 late fee will be charged for registrations beyond the deadline.  Once rosters are sent to the governing leagues, no players may be added.

Can I coach?

-Yes!  We are always in need of coaches as our program grows.  You can sign up to coach during your child’s registration process.  All head and assistant coaches go through a background check every year.  Head coaches are reimbursed for their child’s registration fee after the season is over.

How long is the season?

-Select teams season follows the GVSA calendar usually 8 games (

U5-U8 is 6 weeks or 6 games

U9-U19 Rec Travel is at least six weeks; the tournament was eliminated due to COVID, so additional games may be added.

How do I get involved?

-Ludington Soccer Club is a volunteer organization and is always looking for parents or grandparents to coach, help with tryouts, fundraising, board members, team parent or team manager.  Contact the club by emailing

I haven’t heard from my coach. When should he/she be contacting us about practice?

-You should typically hear from you child’s coach 1 week after our coaches' meeting.  Sometimes we don’t have all our needed coaches by the time we have our meeting so there are sometimes delays.  Contact our Facebook page or email us at

How often do teams practice and when?

-practices are held 1-2 times a week depending on the age group and the coach’s availability.  The younger ages are usually 1-2 days a week for an hour.  The older players usually practice 2 sometimes 3 times per week and they last 1-2hrs.  Days and times depend on the coach.  Every coach is a volunteer and they schedule the days and times based on when they are available.

My child does other activities during soccer season.  Can he/she play soccer also?

-Absolutely!  Our coaches are volunteers and make their own practice schedule so there may be conflicts with practices.  We can not take requests on when your child is available for practices and we can not move players to other teams after they have been made.  Work with your child’s coach to come up with a solution.  Games are usually on Saturdays but can be on Sundays. (Sundays are rare for Rec except the end of season tournament but common for Select)

May by child play up or down an age group?

-Players may play "up" an age group if more challenging skill level is desired.  NO players are allow to play down an age level, per MSYSA rules.
